What do we like about Kreher Park. One is the nice level parking pad with a generous amount of gravel in the pad (as seen in the above photo). We also like the unobstructed view of the lake, even sites furthest from the lake have a decent view. The campground is away from traffic and relatively isolated, yet also is within walking distance of downtown Ashland. Another plus, particularly for the traveler new to the area, is campground host AJ Johnson. An amiable guy who makes sure to welcome each camper to offer brochures and advice on your stay in the area. AJ is Ashland's unofficial director of tourism! If you need a favor don't hesitate to ask. Kreher Park has no reservations and is first come, first served for camping spots. This picture gives you a good idea of how spacious are the sites. Lots of space between them - unlike many RV parks where they stack the maximum number of sites per acre.
For families with kids or grandkids, the play area and the beach are within shouting distance. The kids can go play and you can relax at your campsite but still keep an eye on them. Behind the play area are the washrooms and showers. These are about the only features of the campground that I'd give lower marks to, a C+. The fixtures (sink, showers, johns) are older and showing their age. The floors need refinishing. But the washrooms are always clean and always have adequate hot water in the showers.

Kreher Park's location affords beautiful sunsets (left) and sunrises (below). The lakeshore walking path (seen in the foreground of the sunset picture shown above) runs from the east end of the campground to the Marina Park by Hotel Chequamegon.
The gazebo at Marina Park, about a five minute walk from the campground. A few more minutes walking and you can go to the Hotel Chequamegon for dinner and/or drinks. Their outdoor dining deck offers a fantastic view of the lake.
We recently discovered another place to eat within walking distance of the campground - Second Street Bistro is a nice intimate restaurant with a decent variety of entrees, a pretty good wine list, a few craft beers on tap, and the prices reasonable.
