The downtown portion of the Duluth, Mn Lakewalk
The Duluth Lakewalk is one of the most scenic walking and biking paths around Lake Superior. It offers great vistas of the big lake, attractively maintained parks and gardens, beaches for wading and rock picking, and a unique blend of separation from the noise and busyness of an urban area coupled with easy access to some of its benefits: shopping, dining, pubs, ice cream parlors, etc.

 The Lakewalk begins (or ends!) at the Bayfront Park Pavillion, pictured here to the left.
At this point it technically is a river walk, as the adjacent body of water is the mouth of the St. Louis River which formally empties into Lake Superior as it passes under the Aerial Lift bridge (pictured in the background). |

The walk is more than 3 miles long, beginning at Bayfront Park (southwest of the Aerial Bridge), running through Leif Erickson park and eventually connecting with London Road on the northeast side of town.
Stairways like this one are sprinkled along the route . . . providing convenient access to pubs, restaurants, and rest room facilities while keeping the lakefront free of commercial clutter.

 Just around the corner, behind Hans and Jo, the lakewalk turns towards Canal Park. The boardwalk is for walkers, the pavement for bikers and rollerbladers.
Located at most entrances to the lakewalk are pooper scooper bag dispensers for doggie "accidents!" We always carry a couple with us . . . just in case.

There are lots of benches along the lakewalk for resting or just watching the waves, ships and birds.
