Touring Bayfield Orchards during the The Fall Harvest & Scarecrow Festival - Bayfield, Wisconsin
June through October, Bayfield area orchards offer fresh picked berries, cherries, pears, apples, vegetables and all the products made with these locally grown produce - ciders, jellies, jams, pies, mustards, maple syrup and more.

Fall, September through October, is one of our favorite times of year to tour the orchards. This is when apples are season and the fall colors are out. In year's past we've caught both during Bayfield's famous Apple Festival (traditionally the first weekend in October) but in 2006 we decided to stop by a week early to avoid some of the crowds. A bonus was also catching the Scarecrow Festival.
The orchards, area artisans, local businesses, and families all compete to create interesting, unique, and fun scarecrows to decorate the town and the region surrounding the town of Bayfield. The festival runs from mid-September to the end of October (2012 Fall Festival will run from Sept 1st through October 16th )

Our first stop was Rabideaux's Orchard.

In addition to fresh-picked apples, they also offer pick-your-own which attracted a flock of people to their fields to have some fun and save some money at the same time.
|
Our next stop was at the Bayfield Apple Company - whose scarecrow "Sunny the Sounder" welcomed visitors to their shop. We know their products through gift baskets at Wisconsinmade.com and sampling their tasty apple butter and apple mustard at the Mt. Horeb Mustard Museum.
