Spring golfing at Chequamegon Bay Golf Club - Ashland, Wisconsin |
Chequamegon Bay Golf Course Review
Ashland Wisconsin's golf course is located on the northwest side of town. It is a very scenic area with occasional views of Lake Superior. Nicely landscaped and well maintained. Some fairways are undulating, reminding me of a giant mogul field from my skiing days. This can cause some challenging lies and make it a little more difficult to find your ball. Water and sand traps add challenge of interest to more advanced golfers. Some holes are open to adjoining fairways, others semi-wooded. Favorite hole: #18, a scenic par 5 with water and sand traps adding challenge, yet it is playable - a fair challenge. The slope rating from the Blue Tees is 125.
We've played the course in the spring, fall and in July. On all occasions we've found the fairways and greens in very good condition. In late September 2011 we caught a beautiful day for golf with vibrant fall colors surrounding the course. The picture to the left show some of the colors and also the rolling terrrain or undulating fairways found on most of the holes.
Pro shop is well stocked; good customer service. The riding golf carts are equipped with an easy to read and user-friendly course guide with clear graphics on each hole . . . plus playing tips. Club house has two bars, a supper club, and nice views of the course. While prime time green fees place it in the moderate price range, there are discounts for mid-week, twilight and Sunday afternoon golfing as well as spring and fall rates.
