Friday, the day after our Thanksgiving Dinner at the Rittenhouse Inn, we enjoyed touring around Bayfield for the first day of their Holiday Shop Hop. It was a cool but sunny day. A dusting of snow the previous day added a wintry feel to the Christmas decorations in the street and the shops. We had an opportunity to visit a number of shops we've never been in before as generally when we are in town, we are there for a festival, hiking around town, grabbing a bite to eat or brew at a pub, visiting the Apostle Islands visitor center, or taking an Apostle Islands cruise or visiting Madeline Island. We just haven't worked surfing the gift and craft shops into our schedules.

Among the shops we visited on our "Shop Hop" were Roxanne's Gifts, Orchard's Edge Quilt Shop, Eckels Pottery, Big Water Coffee Roasters, the Encore Resale Shop, Up North Shop, Sweet Sailing, the Brownstone Center, and Joanne's Scandinavian Shop.

Joanne's, located in an 1892 historic register building, had quite a diverse array of Scandinavian theme gifts, apparel, art work, and all sorts of interesting items from Nordic shoes, cookware, textiles and several Christmas theme gift items.

Perhaps the busiest place in town was Big Water Coffee Roasters. We got there just in time, because a few minutes after we arrived the line for fresh coffee to go and fresh roasted beans was almost out the door.

In total 28 businesses are enrolled in the Hometown Holiday Shop Hop. (2022 dates are Nov 25 to Dec 16th) Shop Hop passports are available at all participating businesses and the Chamber Visitor Center. The passports are stamped when you visit each business. Those who accumulate at least 15 passport stamps will be eligible for a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate and those who visit at least 25 businesses will be eligible for a drawing of a $100 gift certificate.

We were disappointed to learn that the lighting of the Christmas Tree and caroling by the Rittenhouse Inn Singers at the Bayfield Pavilion wasn't taking place Friday evening but the next evening on Saturday, Nov. 28th. Unfortunately I couldn't talk Jo into staying another night to take in the celebration.

Downtown Bayfield is packed full of interesting boutiques, funky restaurants & bars, outdoor recreation shops, art galleries & artisan shops, etc.
