Golf Course Rating
One of the most outstanding feature of Marquette Golf Club's Heritage Course was customer service orientation of the staff - very attentive, volunteering help, and asking about your golfing experience. A first class operation. The Pro Shop was the most comprehensive we've seen of those around Lake Superior. The golf carts were in excellent condition. The Club House is top quality and has a local reputation for its food service. The driving range and putting green facilities were adequate. The club house, pro shop, and practice facilities are shared by both the Heritage Course and the newer Greywalls Course.
Moving on to the course itself. The Heritage Course is Marquette Golf Club's original course, opening in 1926 with nine holes. A second nine was added in 1969. The golf course reminded us of the Superior Wisconsin course - Nemadji. Moderately open, modest challenge, very playable, greens in good condition, and fairways in average condition with some clover instead of grass. The scenic rating is about average for Lake Superior courses - with some modest terrain changes and interesting views. Although we rented carts, the course would be an easy one to walk. Normal green fees are a little higher than Duluth-Superior courses so it is not quite equal in value for the condition. The slope rating from the blue tees is 134; from the white tees 128.
Bottom Line. Heritage is a good course and in part due to its excellent customer service and top quality ancillary facilities, you can expect a very enjoyable golfing experience.
