As with other types, "Day Hiking" for ISTJs is the most favorite of our listed pursuits. In terms of interest in canoeing, ISTJs seem much more likely than some other types to prefer overnight trips as opposed to day trips. Overall interest in canoeing was higher than most other types - with the exception of ISTPs & ISFJs.

I saw more focus on more vigorous physical exercise in the collection of other interests listed: skiing, mountain biking, mountain hiking, and trail running. Like some other types, the escape is also important: "I can't stand being in an artificial environment for days on end . . . If I don't get outside into fresh air frequently, I get really irritable." One of the respondents was a natural resources professional: "I work for a state fish and wildlife department . . . The outdoors is my life!" My impression is ISTJ is a good fit for a natural resources staff member - plenty of activities or things to plan, organize, manage, caretake, etc.

An interesting sidebar note on the ISTJ personality. One respondent mentioned

A relatively small sample of ISFJs make comparisons and generalizations exceedingly risky. But we'll plunge ahead anyhow!

~~~~~~
While Hiking is the most favorite activity of this ISFJs, they show a stronger interest in canoeing - including overnight tripping - than most other types. In comparison to other types, they are more likely to choose an overnight canoe trip over an overnight backpacking expedition, yet both are important outdoor recreational pursuits of ISFJs.
Other outdoor activities of interest include: sailing (2), rowing, nature walks, walking (2), gardening, trail running, boating, photography, rock climbing(3), whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, and fishing.
The people in our particular sample of ISFJs seem to quite "actively" enjoy the out-of-doors.
Had our sample been larger I would have expected to see some people reporting natural resources as their occupation.
