The Totem Hole at Homestead Golf Club - Marquette, Michigan |
Homestead Golf Course Review
This is an attractive, well maintained nine hole golf course with an interesting layout. Family owned and operated, it shows the same kind of attention to detail and care we found at the Wyandotte Hills (Twin Lakes, MI) golf club. The fairways were in good condition as were the greens, which generally ran true. The general course layout, placement of traps, bunkers, and water hazards offered some challenge but it was fair, quite playable. The semi-wooded, rolling terrain, and well groomed course presented an attractive appearance, slightly above average compared to other courses around Lake Superior. We played the White Tees, a decent challenge at 3120 yards. The Blue Tees at 3330 yards would add even more.
The club house had a friendly, neighborhood bar atmosphere, offering beer and sandwiches. Pro shop was modest but had one outstanding feature - electric golf carts . . . what a joy to drive compared to the herky, jerky gas guzzling jobs. The driving range was a nice size and would accommodate several golfers. The green fees and cart rental were a reasonable price and combined with the good layout and maintenance, this is a very good golfing value. We were told a nine hole addition is in progress so some time in 2010 this will be upgraded to an 18 hole course. If the second nine is as good as the first, this will be a popular course.
