Greywalls Golf Course Review
Dan played Greywalls before I arrived to join him for four days of golfing some Upper Peninsula Lake Superior courses. The next day, after we played the Heritage Course, we toured Greywalls in our cart and Dan served as my tour guide noting features of the course. Greywalls shares the same Pro Shop, Club House and staff of the Heritage Course so it gets high marks on all of these factors. In addition it is an exceptional course. Well groomed fairways, manicured greens, every hole offering unique features, dramatic terrain changes and rock outcroppings, exceptional scenery, unusual (but generally playable) challenges. Cart paths were paved, well marked and in excellent condition. Due to the dramatic terrain changes and long distances between most holes this is not a course you walk - in fact you pay for a cart whether you want it or not! The slope rating from the championship tees is 144; from the back tees 138.
Greywalls is a "golfing experience" course, one that is unique enough to warrant far above average green fees and once played will likely stay in memory. At the normal price of $125 for green fee, cart, and range ball package Dan would probably play this course only once or a few times for the unique experience . . . but at the Fall discounted rate of $85 he would easily play this course again in the future (and in fact he did when he and I played the course last fall - see comments below for more info).
