This attractive northern Wisconsin state park is a little bit off the Lake Superior Circle route, but in our opinion worth the detour. . . particularly in the spring or fall. This value of this scenic detour is further strengthened by the fact you can also take in Potato Falls on the Potato River.
If you are visiting in the fall, the Copper Falls-Potato River Falls loop makes a nice addition to your wisconsin fall color tour.
The park's spacious picnic area covers 5 acres and offers several picnic tables and grills, a playground area, a large 1930's log shelter (pictured to the left), and a concession stand and gift shop. The picnic grounds and a part of the main waterfalls trail is handicap accessible.
Below are fall color pictures of Red Granite Falls and information on camping and hiking trails at Copper Falls State Park.

PS. Unlike other hiking trails in the park, The Red Granite trail is pet friendly

Hiking Trails
The most popular trail is the 1.7 mile Doughboys Nature Trail loop that offers views of Copper Falls, Brownstown Falls, and other river views. Another popular hike is the mile long spur trail off the Doughboys Trail that leads to the park's 65 foot observation tower with views of the Apostle Islands and Lake Superior. The 2.5 mile Red Granite Falls trail is the only one that is pet friendly. There are three or four other trails that are primarily used for mountain biking or wintertime skiing and showshoeing.

Camping at Copper Falls State Park
< < < Click on Park map of hiking trails, mountain bike trails, the campground and other facilities of Copper Falls State Park.
Click on Campsite map. Sites are wooded; have nice spacing from one another. 13 sites have electric service. Showers and dump station. Well suited to both tents and RV camping.
Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing are available on the park's secluded Loon Lake. An attractive 300 foot wide sand beach and a shallow drop-off make this an inviting spot for swimming and beach activities. The lake is for non-motorized watercraft only so there won't be any big waves or noisy jet skiis competing with you!
