There are a number of private and public campgrounds in and around Munising, Michigan. Our favorite is Bay Furnace, located in Christmas, Michigan a few miles west of Munising. The 50 campsites are nicely spaced with picnic table, fire grills, level tent pads and ample parking areas and include both open and wooded sites. Other amenities include fresh water hydrants, vault toilets (which are kept quite clean by the campground hosts), picnic grounds and an expansive sand beach on Lake Superior. Bay Furnace is far enough from the highway to be isolated from the noise, but close enough to easily travel to Munising, Pictured Rocks, and other area scenic and recreational areas.

Spacious and level tent sites and parking. We lucked out and scored a lake front camp site. While there are no RV hookups, Bay Furnace does have an RV dump site.

Sandy beach with some rocks for rock hounds and agate hunters. The historic Bay Furnace that lends its name to the campground.
Au Train Lake Campground - About 12 miles east of Munising
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore offers three campgrounds: Little Beaver Lake, Twelvemile Beach, and Hurricane River. All have water, tables, grills, and vault toilets (but no showers or hookups). Little Beaver and Twelvemile are reached via unpaved roads; the road to Hurricane River is paved. Little Beaver is not well suited for RVs.
Several campgrounds are scattered throughout the state forest south of Pictured Rocks and west of Munising. Most are rustic sites with limited facilities, vault toilets, hand pumps, and accessible via unpaved roads.
Located 2 miles west of Munising on Lake Superior, the park offers 80 Camp Sites, 67 with Electricity & Water, Modern Bathrooms & Showers, and Dump Station.
