GOOD NEWS. Important Updates (July 30th) Travel between Ironwood and Ashland on US 2 is now open, with moving lane closures during the maintenance.

Hwy 13 Road Closure. Opening up Hwy 2 east of Ashland also allows a shorter detour around the Highway 13 road closure via Hwy 77 from Mellen to Hurley to Ashland (see our map below)

Hwy 63 closure. Cars, Light Trucks, and smaller RVs can use a local detour around Grand View. Trucks and big rigs may need to follow the longer detour route we've outlined below in our map.

The July 12 - 13, 2016 storm and tornado hit Northwest Wisconsin & Western Upper Peninsula along Lake Superior from Ashland, Wisconsin to Wakefield, Michigan.

Portions of US 2 near the town of Odana, east of Ashland, were entirely swept away as the Bad River crested to a record 27 feet. South of Ashland, near the town of Marengo a portion of Highway 13 was entirely washed out. Southwest of Ashland, north of Grand River, a portion of US 63 was entirely washed out. Highway 169 south of Gurney was washed out.

Status Reports on Storm Affected Campgrounds and Parks along Lake Superior

The Saxon Harbor Recreation Area and Campground on Wisconsin Highway 122 sustained major damage and is closed and unlikely to re-open during 2016.

As of July 28, Little Girls Point Campground and Day Use Area has re-opened. I know access from Ironwood has been restored, but I am not sure Lake Road is open all the way to the Wisconsin border.

Black River Harbor Recreation Area and Campground, while sustaining some damage, is now open, except for some issues with the boat launching ramp.

Downtown Bayfield is packed full of interesting boutiques, funky restaurants & bars, outdoor recreation shops, art galleries & artisan shops, etc.
